DIPA Seeks Simplified Version of GST Regime in Interim Budget 2024

The Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (Dipa) asks for flexible norms and policy regimes that consist of goods and service tax (GST) in a run-up to the union budget 2024.

The budget should delineate encouraging policies, streamlined regulations, and straightforward GST norms to facilitate the growth of the telecommunications infrastructure sector.

The group based in Delhi also sent a letter to the Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, requesting assistance for the telecom infrastructure industry in the forthcoming budget.

Dipa represents Pratap Technocrats, Crest Digitel American Tower Corporation, Indus Towers, Ascend Telecom, Summit Digitel, iBUS Networks, and Suyog Telematics.

Dipa, representing telecom infrastructure companies, has appealed to the Central government for support in securing input tax credits for telecom towers. Additionally, they are seeking an increase in the tax depreciation rate from 15% to 65% for batteries used for industrial or commercial purposes, aiming to ensure cost recovery.

The group also advocates for the rationalization of TDS provisions related to the purchase of electricity and fuel for operating telecom sites.

Dua emphasized that implementing measures to enhance the ease of doing business would attract increased investment, contributing significantly to the long-term growth of the telecom industry.

Over the years, telecom infrastructure providers have deployed more than 7.7 lakh towers, hosting 27 lakh base transceiver stations across the country.
