IT Department To Investigate Further Tax Eligibility Through GST

New GST Return Forms to Help Authorities Check Tax Evasion

The income tax department is digging the records for the traders who come under the grid of GST but are not filing ITR. The information is also shared with the municipal co-operation of Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh (as it comes under the tax zone of MP).

As a result of long scrutiny of the trader’s data, the fact came out that 37,000 traders in the list have not filed an Income Tax Return for past years. “Now the task is to find out how many of them are under Income Tax net”, says the chief tax commissioner of Madhya Pradesh.

To widen the tax base, the tax department has written the proposal to the municipal corporations of MP to introduce all new column of PAN in the application forms for shop and establishment license.
It was further stated that the data of shop and establishment licenses were the key elements in the investigation to check the eligibility of taxpayers. Officials found such taxpayers with the help of Geo-mapping.

For Instance, the Bhopal governance issued the list of 1 Lakh shop and establishment licenses of the traders, after digging the data 18000 shopkeeper and licenses were sent to find out the tax eligibility.

It was easy to find the tax eligibility of these license holders with the information of PAN. Proposal statements were sent to the municipal commissioner of Madhya Pradesh to initiate a new column of PAN details in the application form for shops and establishment licenses.

The news said that over 100 benami (unnamed or unauthorized) properties were found on which the action is already been taken.
It was also revealed that the tax collection of FY 2019 from the zone was Rs. 23,334, and the target for tax in FY 2020 is 28, 967.
In FY 2019, the number of 7,06,487 new taxpayers were included in the list making the total number reached up to 45 Lakhs.

Day by day new reforms and proposals are introduced in our tax system to cover the larger tax eligible population of the country.
