Anticipated Goods and Service Tax (GST) bill has gone through with lots of ups and down, until its suggestion to its current form now, a single tax for a number of taxes. As per a top official source, The Hindu revealed that GST rolled out could pushed by 2017 and GST needed a Constitution (122nd) Amendment Bill to become reality and in the remainder of the current session of Rajya Sabha, it’s seems impossible. Another reason for the delay in GST Bill passage is the government’s all floor managers not gone for a “Political deal” with the congress and the GST current form has a design fault to roll out.
As per the some maestro of the centre government the proposed GST form is “Undesirable” and have space for improvement. A senior economist expressed his views to The Hindu, “There is a list of products for which States can go for higher than standard rates….a desirable GST is one that will have uniform rates…this is not going to be possible but we should have fewer rates… The current GST has too many rates…it is not a real GST.”
For now, No action have been made and centre also focused to produce a “better GST”, source revealed.
