CBDT Rolls Out Online Calculators (IT, TDS, TCS) to Simplify Compliance for Taxpayers

CBDT Clarifies Authority for Delay Condonation in Trust Registration Filings via Circular 01/2026

The Income Tax Department has introduced a set of online calculators to ease tax compliance for taxpayers. For taxpayers, this provides quick, accessible tools to address complex provisions under both the old and new regimes.

The new suite consists of the Income Tax Calculator, Tax Deducted at Source (TDS Calculator), and Tax collected at source (TCS Calculator), alongside “Quick Calculators” for House Rent Allowance (HRA), Leave Encashment, regime comparison, and penalty/interest computations.

The Income Tax Calculator authorises users to compute their tax obligation by entering taxable income. It consists of multiple assessment years, incorporates surcharge and cess, and applies to all taxpayer categories. It accommodates both the old and new tax regimes, furnishing users with a comparative view of their liabilities.

Meanwhile, the TDS calculator allows calculation of tax deductions on payments to residents and non-residents, assuring compliance with applicable rates and sections of the Income Tax Act. Likewise, the TCS Calculator identifies tax collected at source on specified transactions, applying higher rates where PAN details are missing.

Apart from that, the portal proposes a set of Quick Calculators for specific scenarios. The same comprises the House Rent Allowance (HRA) Calculator, Leave Encashment, regime comparison tools, and penalty/interest calculators for defaults in furnishing returns or delays in TDS/TCS deposits.

The HRA Calculator provides guidance on the exemptions available u/s 10(13A) and Rule 2A. It describes that the exemption is determined by the least of the following three amounts: 50% of the salary for employees in metro cities (or 40% for those in non-metro areas), the actual HRA received, or the rent paid minus 10% of the salary.

The income tax department, via enabling such tools, shows its objective to modernise compliance procedures and empower taxpayers with accessible digital resources. If refined further, the calculators can become crucial in ensuring timely, accurate, and stress‑free tax filing for millions across the nation.
