The EPCH (Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts) showed its concern regarding the upcoming taxation regime and conducted a meeting with their association’s officials and exporters fraternity to discuss the meaningful factors implied after GST roll out.
A petition will be submitted to the GST council on behalf of handicraft exporters by EPCH and the similar petition will be presented to the Union Ministry of Finance by various state governments for the motive of preserving the interest and rights of handicraft industry.
EPCH officials mentioned after the consultation meeting that, “A meeting with Union Finance Minister and other senior government officials is likely to be held shortly wherein the petition will be submitted.”
The EPCH members have taken the decision to contact the finance ministers of individual states as they have been appointed as the integral members of GST council. Talking about the statistics, the total exports of handicrafts during the first six months of 2016-17 came out to be INR 13,005 crore which is 18.28 percent higher than same time period recorded the previous year. While the total exports in time period of 2015-16 were INR 21,457 crore which was a hike of 6.85 percent by its previous year.
