US President Barack Obama on Thursday expressed good thoughts over the Goods and Services Tax (GST) that has been passed by the Indian parliament last month. Obama said that the GST will unleash significant economic activity in the country.
On the sidelines of the 11th East Asia Summit in Vientiane, he expressed his views during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is said to be the last bilateral meeting between PM Modi and Barack Obama before the latter quits office in January 2017.
According to sources, during the meeting, both leaders talked about the priorities in the strategic partnership between the two countries. Also, President Obama praised Prime Minister Modi’s initiatives to bring the reform in the Indian economy.”

“Precisely, he said that the implementation of GST will unleash significant economic activity.”
Barack Obama also praised PM Modi’s vision of innovation and entrepreneurship, saying it would be “very important for a country like India”, it is learned.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister praised the President for strengthening India-US relationship and building a bridge of trust between the two nations.
Obama also stated that “I have always been a friend of India and would continue to be a “strong partner of India and help in any way I can”.
Both the leader also held a discussion on the climate change. Notedly, both had played crucial roles in the signing of the agreement at the Conference of Parties (CoP)-21 Paris climate summit.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister also held bilateral meetings with South Korean President Park Geun-hye, State Counsellor, Laos Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and Foreign Minister of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi.
