In May, Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections surges 3.2% year-on-year to over Rs 1.94 lakh crore.
There is a decrease in the revenue collections from a record of Rs 2.42 lakh crore in April. However, the present year collection in May has remained higher than the Rs 1.88 lakh crore collected in May last year.
The rise in collections is successively propelled by imports. In May, there is a 19.1% year-on-year rise in the gross GST revenue driven by imports to Rs 59,654 crore, whereas gross domestic revenue reduced 2.6% to Rs 1.35 lakh crore. On a net basis, there is a rise of 19.1% to Rs 49,403 crore in the customs GST collections, while a reduction of 2.3% to Rs 1.18 lakh crore in net domestic revenue.
In May, the total GST refunds attained Rs 27,281 crore, which is an increase of 2.6% from the year-ago period. So far in the financial year, cumulative refunds have climbed by 10.9% to Rs 59,063 crore.
In the first two months of FY27, gross GST collections increased by 6.2% to reach Rs 4.37 lakh crore. At the same time, net GST revenue rose by 5.5% to Rs 3.78 lakh crore. The gross domestic revenue for April and May climbed 1.3% year-on-year, totalling Rs 3.19 lakh crore, whereas gross import revenue increased by 22.3%, amounting to Rs 1.17 lakh crore. This highlights the ongoing contribution of import-linked taxes to overall collections.
