GST Portal Issues New Advisory on Biometric Authentication for MP Taxpayers

Biometric Authentication for GST Registrations

New functionality for biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and document verification for GST registration applicants in Madhya Pradesh, w.e.f November 27, 2024, has been introduced under the GST Network (GSTN).

The very change is as per Rule 8 of the CGST Rules, 2017, which allows the applicants to be identified on the GST portal via data analysis and risk parameters. The operations comprise biometric authentication, capturing a photograph, and verifying the original documents uploaded with the application.

The applicants within the new system will obtain an email post providing Form GST REG-01, furnishing a link for one of two processes- OTP-based Aadhaar authentication or an appointment booking for biometric authentication and document verification at a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK).

As per the process at present, the applicant can proceed if OTP-based authentication is applicable. But if the biometric route is mandated then the applicants should book an appointment at the specified GSK through the furnished link in the email.

The same operation comprises the option to choose a suitable schedule for the GSK visit. The applicant at the time of the visit is required to carry the appointment confirmation email, jurisdiction details, Aadhaar and PAN cards (original copies), and the original documents uploaded with the application. For all individuals defined in Form REG-01, the biometric authentication and document verification will be performed at the GSK.

Within the allowed timeline the applicants are suggested to finish the process of biometrics cited in the email. An ARN (Application Reference Number) will be generated upon the successful authentication and verification. The operation days and hours of GSKs will comply with the state administration norms.
