Television Channels to Promote GST Soon

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Board has informed to all television broadcasters to run advertisements of GST Awareness Campaign ‘MANTHAN‘ so that more and more people aware about the recently introduced Goods and Services Tax Regime.

GST came into effect on 1st July and touted as the biggest tax reform since Independence and in the history of 70- year.

An advisory board on Thursday evening, the ministry has petitioned to all TV Broadcasting Channels including Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) and News Broadcasting Association to run the scrolls of GST Awareness Campaign for promotion.

Advisory Board stated, “Keeping in view the importance of the matter, all TV channels, and their associations viz. News Broadcasters Association and Indian Broadcasting Foundation, are requested to run the scrolls, on pro bono basis.”

Till from 2016, overall Campaign on the recently implemented new indirect tax regime is being run by the GST Council and the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). Promotion of GST Campaigns is running in several media platforms such as television, outdoor media and digital Government has appointed brand ambassadors like badminton player P.V Sindhu and Amitabh Bachchan to promote new indirect tax regime

For 2017- 18 Financial Year, the Government has reserved Rs. 4,409 crores for Information & Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry, as 5.96 % higher than that which was assigned for last year. As per the revised figures, an annual budget of the ministry was Rs 4,161 crores for the year 2016-17.
