J&K GST Collection and Return Filing Data Show High Growth

The Jammu and Kashmir State Taxes Department commemorated the 4th UT Foundation Day and Rashtriya Ekta Diwas with great enthusiasm.

During the event, Commissioner of State Taxes, Dr. Rashmi Singh, extended her congratulations to the team of officers and stakeholders for their outstanding achievements over the past four years.

She highlighted the significant growth in the number of registered taxpayers under GST, which has risen from 72,000 in 2017-18 to over 1.42 lakhs. Additionally, the current financial year (2023-24) has witnessed a remarkable increase in collection, surpassing 683 crores, compared to an average monthly collection of around 300 crores previously. The filing of returns by dealers has also reached an impressive rate of 97 percent.

Dr. Rashmi further emphasized that the SGST revenue collections in Jammu and Kashmir have shown an impressive growth rate of 33.20%, surpassing the national average of 15% during the current GST Return Filing Due Dates fiscal year.

The total GST revenue, including SGST and IGST, has reached 4,811.09 crores by the end of October 2023, representing an overall growth rate of 20.31 percent.

The commissioner expressed the National SKOCH award (Silver) of 2023 as a noteworthy achievement that has not only encouraged the officials but also fueled their motivation and enthusiasm.

The commissioner further listed several achievements, which included the successful tax awareness campaign ‘Kartavya,’ the establishment of a Business Intelligent Unit, the implementation of GST Suvidha Kendra/helpdesks in all districts, the extension of e-way bills through Suvidha Kendra, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for capacity building and knowledge sharing, and the initiation of the awareness campaign ‘Mera Bill Mera Adhikar.’

Dr. Rashmi emphasized the effective adoption of the e-stamping system, which has improved precision, transparency, and efficiency. This implementation has led to a consistent growth of approximately 11% in stamp revenue.

To commemorate these achievements, the department released a milestone compendium.

During the event, officers and staff from both Jammu and Kashmir divisions took the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas‘ (National Unity Day) pledge, affirming their dedication to preserving the unity, integrity, and security of the nation while spreading this message among fellow countrymen.

Moreover, to commemorate National Unity Day and UT Foundation Day, a tree-planting initiative was also conducted within the premises of the Excise and Taxation Complex in Jammu. During this event, officers planted saplings of diverse plant species.
