A list of 31 appointed Technical Members to the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) has been officially released by the Government of India.
The cabinet’s appointments committee, which is chaired by the Prime Minister, approved these appointments on the recommendation of the Department of Revenue.
The list comprises a diverse group of retired Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers, alongside other seasoned professionals who have significant experience in the area of indirect taxation.
Among the 31 appointments made, two are designated for the Principal Bench of the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) based in New Delhi. One appointment is for a Technical Member representing the State, while the other is for a member representing the Central Government.

Shri A. Venu Prasad, a retired IAS officer, has been appointed as the Technical Member for the State. Meanwhile, Shri Anil Kumar Gupta, a retired IRS officer who previously served in the Customs and Indirect Taxes wing, has been appointed as the Technical Member for the Centre. These appointments reflect the government’s commitment to leveraging the expertise of experienced professionals in key positions.
The left 29 members shall be in distinct State benches of the tribunal in the nation. These members belong to the IRS Cadre and have held significant positions in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, along with other key roles in the tax administration system.
Each member shall serve a term of 4 years or till they attain the age of 67, whichever comes earlier. Their monthly salary has been fixed at Rs 2,25,000.
