The state and central GST cells of the tax department would have initiated a drive for the physical verification of these units/establishments in the district in order to find out the bogus companies beneath the GST regime and nab offenders. In the district, there are 400 units that are under surveillance.

According to sources in the Taxation Department, part of the drive would involve checking the records of transactions made in the last year or more to make sure there were no irregularities in the procedure. While the drive would concentrate on businesses whose information was provided by the Centre, the scope of verification may go wider, a representative said on the condition of anonymity.
On account of GST registration or the drive that carried on till mid-July would seem to curb any malpractices. From the sum of 77,641 units registered in the district those which come beneath the
state and central GST would be 42,592 and 35,049, respectively. It needs 7 to 30 days for the registration since the registration has been performed online.
But as per the sources, various units do not secure a proper address or record of the financial transactions and seem to evade the tax even enrolled for the GST. Even against some of the firms, the action that has been taken in the former few years these breaches would be carried on.
In Palwal district, in April last year, a scam of Rs 25.11 crore appeared post taxation department revealed that there is some bungling in the tax returns submission via the private company. The bogus cases appear after the firm engaged in trading cigarettes and bidis that applied for the GST registration cancellation dated 1st April 2015. In the probe, fraudulent interstate transactions were witnessed
