Since the exchequer has been constantly suffering from bogus billing scams, the state goods and services tax (SGST) department revoked 4,667 bogus GST registrations all over Gujarat in the former 4 years. The number of cancellations has raised to double with a figure of 2655 in the year 2021-22 from 1055 former year, rendering the bolder actions with respect to those engaged in the bogus GST billing scams. Gujarat lost Rs 4359.4 cr to tax theft by these bogus people.
The department builds a tight decision toward the fake bills created by these fraudsters. Milind Torwane, the state commercial tax commissioner, specified, to reveal the transaction pattern for fetching the bogus billing transactions, We have started using big data analytics. It made us find out the fake GST generated bills relied on the number of GST e-way bills generated. An alert has been provided on these findings and post to the verification, when the bogus activity is seen, we revoked the enrollment.
Fast detection and revocation of registration have assisted IGST realization.
In the former 3 years, some 4308 bogus billing cases have been fetched in Gujarat. Out of those 1308 cases were notified in the year 2021-22 with respect to 480 in 2019-20, the year prior to the covid-19.
The whole bogus bills for Rs 30,226 cr were made by the scamsters, with 75 people arrested.
