The Finance Ministry said that till date, it has not given any directive to its tax officials to further ask taxpayers to pay the maximum amount of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in cash.
As per the news agency of IANS, there are reports in the public that some GST officers are using phone calls and social media such as Whatsapp, calls, and messages (that is unauthorized) to convey the aforesaid message to taxpayers for achieving their revenue goals.
It is worth mentioning here that both the Finance Ministry and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) have issued such a type of directive to income tax officials.
Additionally, as per PTI, the Finance Ministry has declared that taxpayers can use the option of Input Tax Credit in their credit ledger to settle their GST dues for the month of March.
Moreover, The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) released the following statement regarding GST.
“Taxpayers are free to utilize the Input Tax Credit A complete guide for understanding the basics of input tax credit and it calculation with detailed examples under GST (Goods and Services Tax) India. Read more available in their respective credit ledger, as permissible in law, to discharge their GST dues for the month of March 2021 the last month of this financial year,” the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) said in a statement.
The tax exchequer of the Government for GST collections crossed the huge figure of Rs 1 lakh crore in February. However, 1.13 lakh crore was the mop-up of February.
