Drivers Requested Tamil Nadu Govt to Bring Fuel in GST, Defer EMIs

Drivers Urge Govt to Bring Fuel Under GST

Transportation is completely halted in the lockdown period imposed by the government to contain the spread of the Coronavirus. There are still some strict restrictions on people’s traveling. Thus it is obvious that cab and autorickshaw drivers are going through a tough time. That’s why cab and autorickshaw drivers from Madurai (Tamil Nadu) urge the government to bring fuel under the GST regime and postponed of EMIs of the vehicle for a few more months.

These drivers attached to the Urimai Kural Otunar Thozhirsangam in Tuticorin have represented a description to the chief minister seeking his attention to providing some relief till their condition back to normalcy. M Jayaraj, district secretary of the association said that “By May 17 we will be under lockdown for 54 days due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Our livelihood is solely dependent on the travel pattern of the public. We are now struggling for our next meal and have knocked on the doors of the government,”

The drivers have also expressed their disappointment over increasing the tax even when the prices of international crude oil have reached to bottom. They also stated that the fuel should be cover under the GST regime because under GST the highest tax rate is only 28% Grab the information of revised GST slab rates on consumer products in India, Although GST council finalized the slab rates like 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. Thus they will get some relief on fuel spending, and the benefits can be passed on to the customers. The association also requested to provide an extension on the deadline to renew licence, badge, permits, till September 30, 2020, and shut down all the toll plazas in the state. Additionally, They also sought a monthly relief of Rs 2,000 and urged the government to allow taxis and autorickshaws for early operation.
