The Goods and Services Tax (GST) officials have made a six-member group of ministers (GoM) to guide critical revisions needed in the GST laws and additional legal modifications to set up the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT).
Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala has led the Group of Ministers.
“In its 47th meeting held on June 28-29 in Chandigarh, the GST Council meeting discussed the changes required in provisions pertaining to the GST Appellate Tribunal in the GST Laws to bring it in conformity with judgments of the courts in relation to various aspects concerning Tribunals,” a Finance Ministry statement declared.
GST officials have decided to make a GoM take part in the problems engaged in. the additional GoM members consist of Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath, Goa Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, Rajasthan Law and Legal Affairs Minister Shanti Kumar Dhariwal, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Khanna and Odisha Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari.
The GOM upon GSTAT would suggest the important changes needed in the GST laws to ensure that the legal provisions carry on the correct federal balance and are in queue with the goal of steady taxation across the country.
For consideration of the Goods and Services, Tax Council GoM will submit its report by July 31.
What is GSTAT?
Unlike other dispute resolution forums, GSTAT is independent of GST authorities and is open to citizens and taxpayers. To protect the rights of taxpayers and the revenue interests of the federal government and the states, a robust, rules-based tribunal using next-generation technology is essential. A tribunal would be a natural extension of the existing workflows due to the extent to which technology is used for GST compliance and administration.
