Consumers are in distress as e-commerce sites and retail stores are selling the discounted products with the addition of GST above the discount price, as revealed in a poll by Local Circles with the engagement of 8,845 people. The consumers expect from the government to take action against this unfair move.
Local circles also stated that by this unfair move, sellers are not providing the products at the promised price instead they are tricking them. It is revealed by a poll that if a product costs Rs. 2000 including GST and advertised to sell at 50% discount, they are charging the GST over the discounted price which is Rs 1,000.

Although, according to latest norms, charging GST over discounted price is liable, therefore creating discontent for consumers. It is also noteworthy that e-commerce sites are imposing 18% GST cess on discounted price and selling out the product costing Rs. 2000 with 50% discount at Rs. 1180. Therefore, the final amount is 9% less than the discount (promised 50%) of the product. This survey is named as “fleecing” by e-commerce sites by Local Circles, a social engagement platform.
Around 27% voters agreed that the GST being smacked considering the discounted price on 1 to 5 times in a month. Around 30% voters say that they didn’t get into any such act, and the remaining 27% confirmed that they do not have any idea regarding this. According to the survey, many sellers have been discounting the products including the taxes but the final price in the bill is showing mentioning of GST.
