CBEC Will be Rechristened as CBIC Under GST Scheme

The GST council and the CBEC are being considered as the topmost authority in the upcoming goods and service tax direction. And ahead of GST, the finance ministry is in full preparation to change the name of old The Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC) into the specific Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) as soon as possible.

The news from finance ministry surfaced as, “The Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC) is being renamed as the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC), after getting legislative approval.” The working will be around all its field analyzing and directorates and assisting in the policy making of government implication in GST while running central excise levy and customs operations.

“Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has approved the reorganization of the field formations of the CBEC for the implementation of GST, The existing formations of central excise and service tax under the CBEC have been re-organised to implement and enforce the provisions of the proposed GST Laws” as mentioned by the ministry itself.

The CBIC department will be undertaking 21 zones, 101 GST Taxpayer Services Commissionerates comprising 15 sub-Commissionerates, 768 Divisions, 3,969 Ranges, 49 Audit Commissionerates and 50 Appeals Commissionerates all in all while in the operational mode. The statement released in the press said that “This will ensure rendering of taxpayer services to all the taxpayers through an indirect tax administration structure, having a pan-India presence.”

Additionally, the Directorate General Tax Payer Services has been under the expansion phase which will make the influence far reaching for all the taxpayer community to make easy for them to migrate themselves to the GST framework. Also, the running institute of training which will be name changed as National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics will spread across the nation’s geography and will trigger capacity growth for the indirect tax administrating employees of state and center both along with the members of Trade and industry body.
