CBEC Officials to Start Non-cooperation Movement Against GST Council

CBEC Officials

Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has alone emerged out of nowhere to oppose government’s decision to bring states in the place of the centre to assess the taxpayers in the ratio of 90 percent which in the terms of central employees will drop down the revenue generation garnered by the central authorities previously.

The officers of the department are now saying that the work will be impacted by the decision and will strike against the government with this unjustified decision. The department of CBEC will not celebrate the Customs day and will wear black badges on January 30 as to show discontentment.

The committee gave a statement in this matter, “We feel that the biggest tax reform of the century should have been in conformity with the principles of responsibility and authority going together and also in conformity with the Constitutional design. We feel that the decision shall weaken the Centre’s ability to ensure its revenues.”

“The decision will not only adversely affect the career of revenue officers but it is not in national interest. We oppose the decisions taken by GST Council and requests for deferment and review of above inappropriate and incorrect decisions, We feel that if the above genuine demands in national and revenue interest are not considered then this disciplined service will be forced to initiate non-cooperation movement following Gandhian methods of Satyagraha,” the association added.

A total of 70 thousand employees from central service tax department are expected to go on the strike for the opposition of this unruly decision, also the department wanted to make a justified decision as soon as possible. The major concern was to make a neutral distribution, of taxpayers among the states and center, as the GST council and center has divided taxpayers in 90 percent to states and remaining 10 percent to the center.

  1. yes there should be different rank level and these central and state government cannot be merged so easily . Central excise and customs where bringing huge revenue to us and the staff have studied and have been trained in handling the cases . Now State Government cannot be compared with Central Staff.
