The Traders association Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has raised an issue against the low level of technological assistant available for the traders across the nation which can combat the upcoming GST prerequisites of the online establishment of the structure. The association has jotted down the matter within the circumstances where the nation has to cope up with various other scenario arose out of demonetization drive. The association demands the time to be shifted till September 1.
The association has shown the concern of around 70 percent of the small traders and business which are still compelling for a reasonable stand in the market. As CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal itself mentioned that, “Nearly 70 percent of small businesses in the country are yet to adopt digital technology in their business format and as such it is a big challenge for them to computerized themselves in the shortest period, Accordingly, the deadline for GST implementation from July 1, may be deferred for a reasonable time and meanwhile a nationwide campaign for mass awareness on GST may be conducted involving trade associations all over the country.”
As the second leg of budget session will commence, a scarce time of 60 days will be left to build up the IT infrastructure by the business entities which requires knowledge as well as awareness in the field and the given time is much less than speculated. The association head has revealed some points which may matter as he mentioned, “About two crore small businesses across the country would come under GST regime and 60 days would not be enough for spreading awareness and educating about the new taxation system, Given the Constitutional obligation, we think that September 1 could be taken as roll out date for GST.”
“Since GST is a destination-based taxation system and traders are the last mile connect with consumers, the views and comments of trade and commerce will go a long way in establishing GST as the best revenue model in the country, The concept of e-permit in inter-state transactions will destroy One nation-One Tax concept. Since each activity will be linked through GST network enabling the Government to keep a close watch on each and every movement of goods and services, the provision of e-permit should be withdrawn.” he added.
