On a mandatory note, the government has mandated the Aadhar Number to be used while filing the income tax returns and applying for new Permanent Account Number (PAN) card starting from July 1 in order to tie the knots more strictly over the miscellaneous system being operational under the government schemes of taxation and other business applications.
The amendments proposed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Finance Bill were testament that the entire finance ministry is intended to curb the illegal activities done away from the vision of government. In the proposed amendments, it said that all the taxpaying entities must link their PAN cards and Aadhar number in which PAN cards which are not linked with the Aadhar number before the mentioned deadline of July will be seen invalid and the application will be discarded straight away.

The government authorities and bench of Justice V Gopala Gowda clearly stated that, “the Aadhaar card Scheme is purely voluntary and it cannot be made mandatory till the matter is finally decided by this Court one way or the other”. But a letter sent by the central government to chief secretaries and administrators of all states and union territories on July 14 had stated that only online applications under the National Scholarship Scheme will be accepted and “it may be noted that submission of Aadhaar is mandatory.”
The sources have cleared that the decision to link the Aadhar number to the bank account was taken back last year and was thought to be implemented ahead of GST. The initiative has been taken to make all the financial transactions to be more transparent and in this direction, the government is working on a full-fledged manner to link all the accounts with Aadhar number before April this year.
Also in this year, the ministry of labor made compulsory to link the Aadhar number with all the EPF accounts of employees and in an announcement, it was asked to be enrolled before 31 January to get the Aadhar number for those who don’t have the Aadhar card.
