For monitoring the progress of new indirect tax regime, Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha has written a letter to secretaries of all ministers to make a weekly report of all complaints including business entities still not registered or switched in the new regime, complaints of traders, rise in prices in the new regime, software glitches and shortage of commodities. This is a fresh notification announced by the PK Sinha for the smooth transition of goods and services across the country. He covered in the letter, “To make the transition smooth and painless for the general public as well as for the traders, it is essential that all the government functionaries constantly obtain and analyse feedback from ground level and take corrective steps wherever necessary.”
Previously, the revenue department had informed to all ministries to organise GST cell meeting in the public sector undertakings (PSU), subordinate offices and ministries to solve any queries or issues related to the implementation of the new regime. Now, Sinha has notified that the ministries and secretaries must get district level report and assemble complaint reports weekly in the GST cell at the Ministry.
A document formulated by the revenue department has been distributed to all government officials to be filled with ground level reports. After the implementation of the new regime, if the prices are increased than what is the difference between pre- GST price and post- GST prices. Is there any shortage of supplies of goods? The officials have been requested to continuously monitor the queries, complaints, and issues related to the new indirect tax regime and try to solve them instantly without any delay.
PK Sinha mentioned in the letter, “These cells shall constantly monitor and analyse the feedback from various channels such as nodal officers. The issues posed may be resolved in real time in consultation with the revenue department. You may also ensure that PSUs and field formations under your administrative jurisdiction also take similar steps to facilitate the smooth transition into GST platform.” After the compilation of reports, it is essential to send reports to the cabinet secretary for a review meeting every Monday. The government also wants information on success stories of each industry that can be used to remove anxieties about the new indirect regime.
