The Finance Ministry will ask for feedback from businesses and tax professionals on the revised GST return forms from November 1, 2026. Gaurav Singh, Commissioner of the GST Policy Division at the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), stated that the department will work to facilitate the GST audit process.
Requirement for revisions
The GST Council, in its 57th meeting held on October 8, approved revisions to make it simpler for taxpayers to rectify mistakes in their GST returns. The objective is to reduce errors, prevent discrepancies in tax records, and reduce the need for tax notices.
The council approved revisions to GST forms GSTR-1, GSTR-1A, the Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF), and GSTR-3B. Such revisions will provide taxpayers with an alternative method to rectify errors in their tax liabilities and ITC claims. It is anticipated to reduce the notices automatically generated because of mistakes in GST returns.
On November 1, 2026, the revised forms will be uploaded to the MyGov portal for public feedback. Till November 30, businesses, taxpayers, and professionals can provide their suggestions. The schedule for the new system will come into force from April 1, 2027.
