On the Income Tax Act, 2025, the Income Tax Department performed an outreach programme in Ghatkopar today (April 28, 2026), as part of a nationwide drive to spread awareness about the salient features of the new Act, which has come into force from April 1, 2026.
Such initiatives outline the department’s continued commitment to improving taxpayer awareness, facilitating compliance processes, and fostering a transparent, efficient, and trust-based tax administration system.
In the programme, more than 350 persons from various cross sections of society, including taxpayers, chartered accountants, trade associations, and representatives from various business communities across Ghatkopar, were present.

Dr Vikram Sahay, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, on the occasion, said that the new Act shall be effective for the taxpayers, reducing the cost of compliance through simplification, rationalisation, and easy comprehension, and will help taxpayers in releasing their obligation of paying taxes for the development of the nation.
The Act was made by considering the perspectives of taxpayers. He also mentioned that the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, has declared that in April and May, more than 30 outreach programmes will be performed across various locations in Mumbai, and a Mega outreach event will be organised on 12th May, 2026.
Dr Maya Maheshwari, the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax in Mumbai, delivered the welcome address. She stated that the Department’s officials have made much effort over the past two years to simplify the Act and make it more comprehensible. A presentation on the new Act was provided by Shri Manas Sahu, ACIT.
Further, the participants were familiarised with digital taxpayers’ services, along with the AI-enabled “Kar Saathi” chatbot, the booklet “Kar Setu” that has the FAQs on the new Act of 2025, and other educational resources, such as brochures and Guidance Notes.
On the occasion, Shri. Jitendra Mehta, Senior Vice President, CREDAI MCHI, Shri. Deepak Chheda, Secretary, Akhil Ghatkopar Vyaapari Mandal, and CA Bhavik Kubadia, Convenor, Ghatkopar Study Circle, WIRC ICAI, were present amongst the dignitaries. In the programme, the tax professionals participating suggested that the new act has moved from intricacy to clarity, and uses a technology-driven system.
The participants in the two-hour-long session raised various questions and asked for clarifications on different aspects of the tax payment and return filing in FY 2026-27, which were addressed by the senior officers of the income tax department. The stakeholders had appreciated the event.
