According to a senior official in Telangana Government, the next GST Council Meeting is scheduled on 9th September in Hyderabad. This is the third meeting which is organised by the GST Council since the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Regime from 1st July, whereas, it is the 21st Meeting since it was set up in September in the previous year.
The official told PTI that, “The meeting will be held in Hyderabad. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will be heading the meeting. The agenda will be fixed soon,” the official told PTI. The official further said, ” Our (Telangana) government is going to raise the issue of tax concession for government projects, besides other subjects such as concession for industry, granite, etc.”
The Council headed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and including state finance ministers as a member. From past 10 months, the council had solved several contended issues and had announced a four- slab rate structure– 5, 12, 18 and 28 percent under the Goods and Services Tax Regime (GST).
The official said that, Meantime, a total of 216 lakh VAT registrations were enrolled in the state, out of them 1.96 lakh traders have migrated to Goods and Services Tax and the migration was smooth. “The remaining are basically those who have the turnover below Rs 20 lakh,” said official. He further added that the deadline for filing the returns of the first month has been extended to 25th August. In some special cases, traders will be entitled to file their tax returns until 5th September.
