After E-way bills roll out, less than 200,000 E-way bills generated on the day 1 as the anti-tax evasion measure under the GST, although the authorities set up for the higher volumes on April 2.
Above 171,000 E-way bills were issued till 5 pm on April 1, as per the statement delivered by the government.
Approximately, 19,800 transporters and 1.1 million taxpayers have registered on the portal. The GSTN and the National Informatics centre are in collaboration regulating the E-way bill implementation.

Prakash Kumar, a chief executive officer of GSTN, as it was Sunday, the volumes were low. Prakash Kumar said mentioning that the complaints are not that much on the first day, “The pattern we have seen in our trial runs is that volumes on Sunday are one-fourth of that on a working day.”
E-way bill is a proof of electronic record of goods movement. E-way bill was compulsory in inter-state supplies of goods from 1 April after technological glitches propelled the government to delay the roll out from the initial implementation from 1 February 2018.
Its rollout is assumed to verify tax evasion and assist in enhancing revenue buoyancy. Relying on the achievement of E-way bills for interstate supply, an E-way bill is put to be launched for goods movement in a state in a systematic way.
