GST Rates

Traders of Tamil Nadu urged to look into the GST (Goods and Services Tax) and make changes in it. They also demanded to remove the 18 per cent of the collection which is charged for bank transactions and to include the diesel and petrol under the GST.

As on 5th May the Traders day was celebrated due to which the shops in the city were closed and the traders and their families took part in the 36th annual conference which was held in the YMCA grounds in Royapettah.

Many proposals were passed at the meeting by the Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangankalin Peramaippu. He also said that the agriculture products, sports goods, textiles, and food items should be exempted from GST.

On the other hand, Peramaippu president A.M. Vikramaraja said that the threshold limit for the e-way bills must be set up to INR 5 lakh which will be beneficial for the traders. He also added “GST rates should be brought down according to international standards and there should only be two rates – 5% and 12%. If the government that comes to power at the Centre does not implement our demands, traders plan to gherao Parliament”.
