Three and a Half Lakh GST E Way Bills Generated Each Day

The three and a half lakh e-Way bills generated each day in Coimbatore are an indication of the successful implementation along with large-scale acceptance by the taxpayer. The officials are elated with the response so far. Following the February 1 crash, the E-way bill was reintroduced and since then the system has been hassle free. Under the GST, for movement of goods (interstate or intrastate), valued above Rs 50,000, an E-way Bill has to be generated.

The E-Way Bill was reintroduced on April 1 in a state-wise manner. The intra-state E waybill was launched in Tamil Nadu from June 2. Post some initial technical hiccups, the system has worked smoothly and on an average boasts of three and a half lakh e-Way bills per day.

The Driving Factor

The increase in the exemption limit of the intra-State e-Way bill is the prime reason for such wide-scale acceptance. The exemption limit is now fixed at 1 Lakh. This a welcome move for micro industries. Within the state boundaries, Micro Industries can now easily transfer goods from one place to another. 42 GST Suvidha Kendras were set up by the Government across the country.

Coimbatore, Pollachi, Tirupur and The Nilgiris fall within the jurisdiction of the Coimbatore SGST Regional office. Reportedly, not a single goods vehicle has left the state border without furnishing an e-Way bill. In the words of a TN state GST official, “Schemes like GST is very helpful for the overall development. With any new schemes, there will be some problems witnessed in the beginning. Once all of them come under the system, then it will be more effective. Initially, we also doubted in the implementation, but both the inter and intra-State e-Way bill systems are witnessing good progress across Tamil Nadu.” A clear indication of changing good times where all loopholes have been subsumed by an apt system. Technology does facilitate good governance.
