Samsung India Gets Caught in GST Investigation

Samsung India GST Investigation

Samsung India comes under the probe of the GST officials as recently the GST department had sent notices to the Samsung office in India to give a detailed sales report including GST charged.

It was found by the GST officials that the Samsung had not passed the GST rate cut benefits to the consumers even when the GST council had announced slashing of GST rates.

In December 2018, GST council had reduced the GST rates on televisions and monitors up to 32 inches from 28 per cent 18 per cent. But through the investigation, the GST department came to know that Samsung may have tried to profiteer even after the rate cut.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs and its investigation team had also asked the sales report of the Samsung India of the given time period to ascertain the facts.

The GST council had made some norms such as Section 171 of Central Goods and Services Tax Act which says that any GST rate reduction in the goods or services must be further passed onto the customers by a reduction in prices.
