GSTN Issues Advisory for GST Registered Applicants on Biometric Aadhaar Authentication

The Goods and Services Tax Network has published a helpful advisory for GST-registered applicants marked for Biometric Aadhaar Authentication on August 28, 2023.

According to an amendment to Rule 8 of the CGST Rules, applicants who choose to authenticate their Aadhaar numbers and were identified on the common portal would be scheduled for biometric Aadhaar authentication and photographing themselves based on data analysis and risk parameters.

The GSTN portal is prepared to launch the functionality and the pilot for the aforementioned change. From 30th August 2023, the same functionality will be incorporated in Puducherry in the stage of the pilot. Post application furnishing in Form GST REG-01 and prior to the ARN generation, the applicant would obtain the message of visiting GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) or a link on the declared Mobile and Email ID; as subject to get applied at the TRN stage, laid upon the identification via common portal so that the process of registration might get closed.

Applicants can proceed to finish their application who have obtained the link on the Mobile and email ID for the authentication of Aadhaar under the current execution.

But those petitioners who have obtained the message for visiting the GSK shall need to proceed to the stated GSK as conveyed via Mobile/Email and get biometric authentication to all the needed individuals under the application of GST Form REG-01. Prior to the expiry date of the TRN, the applicants would be urged to go to GSK as mentioned in the Email for the Biometric-based Aadhaar Authentication process. In this instance, the Application Reference Number (ARN) generation won’t begin until the biometric-based Aadhaar authentication procedure is complete.
