CBIC: GST Returns for Manipur Businesses Can Now be Filed by 31st July

For the Manipur-based businesses to file monthly GST returns the last date has been extended to 31st July 2023 for the month of April, May and June 2023 by CBIC since the northeastern state would be carried on to see the violence because of the ethnic clashes.

50th GST Council Update: “In view of the prevailing law and order situation in the State of Manipur, the Council recommended to extend the due dates for filing of FORM GSTR-1FORM GSTR-3B and FORM GSTR-7 for the months of April, May and June, 2023 for the registered persons of State of Manipur till 31.07.2023.”

Three Central Tax notifications have been issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) which stated that the last date for filing returns GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, and GSTR-7 for the month of April, May and June by registered persons whose principal place of business is in Manipur has been extended till July 31st.

GSTR-1 form is the statement of outward supplies which is filed by every month on the 11th of the day.

By 20th May, the April GSTR-3B form which would be the monthly tax payment form was needed to get filed.

GSTR 7, Which was liable to get filed via businesses who deduct tax at source by 10th May for April month.

After a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in the hill districts Conflicts broke out in Manipur dated May 3 in order to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

The tension of eviction of Kuki villagers from the reserve forest land would be directed to the Manipur violence, it had resulted in a succession of minor agitations.

Meiteis account for approximately 53% of Manipur’s population and live mostly in the Imphal Valley. Tribals — Nagas and Kukis — constitute another 40% of the population and reside in the hill districts.

In the northeastern state, the ethnic clashes claimed nearly 70 lives and some 10,000 army and paramilitary personnel would have deployed. But since one person was killed and another injured the violence would have continued.
