AP State Gets Biometric Aadhaar Authentication for Simplifying GST Registration

Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, on Thursday, announced the the approval of biometric-based Aadhaar authentication via GST Seva Kendras for Andhra Pradesh. The step will make the process of GST registration easier and enhance the security, said the Minister.

The GST revenue in October month reached the growth of a 10-month high touching ₹1.72 lakh crore, countrywide. Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a significant increase in the GST collections. The state registered an early growth of 12% from April to October 2023 in its post-settlement GST.

During a foundation stone laying ceremony of GST Bhavan at Tirupati, Sitharaman said that the revenue generated by the Tirupati Commissionerate in Andhra Pradesh is ₹8,264 crore in FY23, and from April to September 2023 the collection is ₹5,019 crore. The manufacture of passenger vehicles, automotive batteries, and cement are the main sources of this immense collection, said Sitharaman.

In October, the gross GST collection of India jumped 13% on the year to ₹1.72 lakh crore. It is the second-highest collection ever in GST since its inception. The aggregate GST revenue of the centre and states in October stood at ₹72,934 crore and ₹74,785 crores, respectively.

Revenue Secretary, Sanjay Malhotra while speaking at an event, suggested Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) officers keep their focus on resolving taxpayers’ issues.

What is Biometric Authentication for GST Registration?

The GST Council has introduced a new procedure for tightening GST registration rules. Its primary purpose is to enhance the protection and control of fraudulent registrations. GST registration can only be authorized after the applicant has been certified by Aadhaar and biometrically verified at a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK). The new system has started in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.
