In April, the gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections reached a new high, showing the successive strength in economic activity even during the ongoing Middle East Conflict.
As per the data released by the government on Friday, the gross GST revenue for the month has attained a record Rs 2.43 lakh crore, registering an 8.7% increase over Rs 2.23 lakh crore collected in April last year.
Post refunds accounting, net GST collections stood at Rs 2.11 lakh crore with a rise of 7.3% from the corresponding period a year earlier. The disbursements of refund in the month have surged to 19.3% year-on-year to Rs 31,793 crore.

Consequently, Rs 2,10,909 crore is the net GST revenue for April 2026. Strong revenues from imports have secured a major role in driving GST collections in the month.
Gross receipts from imports have surged by 25.8% to Rs 57,580 crore, while gross domestic GST collections recorded a comparatively moderate rise of 4.3%, reaching Rs 1.85 lakh crore.
From imports, the net GST revenue has increased to 42.9%, outpacing the marginal 0.3% rise in net domestic collections.
The performance in April has arrived after the robust result in March, when net GST collections stood at Rs 1.78 lakh crore, up 8.2% from a year earlier. In that month, the gross collections had surpassed the Rs 2 lakh crore mark.
For the entire FY 2025-26, gross GST revenue has surged by 8.3% year-on-year to Rs 22.27 lakh crore. For the year, the net GST collections have surged 7.1% to Rs 19.34 lakh crore. States like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat continued to make up a significant portion of total collections.
