As per official data, in February 2026, the gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in India surged to Rs 1.83 lakh crore, reporting a surge by 8.1% as compared to the same period last month. The total gross GST revenue for FY26, as of February 28, reached Rs 20.27 lakh crore, reflecting an 8.3% year-on-year increase.
Total refunds stood at Rs 22,595 crore, which is a rise of 10.2% YoY, and had a consequence in net GST revenue of Rs 1.61 lakh crore in February.
A rise of 5.3% in Gross Domestic Revenue has been witnessed, which stood at Rs 1.36 lakh crore, and Gross Import Revenue stood at Rs 47,837 crore, reporting an increase of 17.2% last month.
Rs 5,063 crore was the net cess revenue, decreased from Rs 13,481 crore in February last year.
The latest GST collection numbers show the fact that there has been a consumption surge that has more than compensated for the rate reductions, directing to a 8% rise in the monthly collections and as per the absolute numbers, the collections which were reaching towards Rs 2 trillion per month, the rate reductions have pulled it back and the time shall get consumed in reaching Rs 2 trillion mark.
The surge in consumption has led to a 8% plus rise in the monthly and annual collections, which is kept via the robust GDP data and other macroeconomic indicators, which has been specified recently.
State-wise post-settlement GST revenues depicted a mixed trend. Effective gains are being published via industrialised states, and smaller regions undergone contractions.
The largest tax contribution has been given via the State of Maharashtra with Rs 10,286 crore pre-settlement, followed by Karnataka and Gujarat.
As per post-settlement SGST, the States that recorded a positive GST revenue growth are Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh, among others.
As per the post-settlement SGST, a negative GST revenue growth is shown by some States, including West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir, among others.

According to the pre-settlement SGST figures, the negative growth reported by major states such as Tamil Nadu ( -6%), MP (-8%), Rajasthan (-1%), and the single digit growth below the national average of 8% reported by WB (1%) Haryana(2%), UP(5%), Maharashtra (6%) would be a case of concern for the states and the policy makers.
