Strict Action Against 1300 Traders in J&K for Not Filing GST Returns

Strict actions will be taken against the 1,300 dealers who did not pay the GST from starting, i.e. July 2017, by the Jammu and Kashmir state tax department.

A spokesman of the department said that the data collection process of all the business organizations in J&K has been started and for this reason many different teams are controlling the spot verification of every business unit and the required data is being recorded. Till now above 1,300 dealers have been identified by the department who made a purchase of Rs 718.72 crore, he said.

The spokesman said that the department is ready to launch a special drive which will include very strict action against the people who failed to file the returns of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the businesses who purchased crore of rupees but did not file the GSTR 3B returns. The department has already started an action against the Messrs Dogra medical hall who discontinued the sale to avoid the Goods and Services Tax (GST), he said.

The spokesman also said “During inspection and verification of sale documents, it was found that the drug store had an approximate sale of Rs 1.5 crores for the year 2017-18. However, the sales had been suppressed and sales only to the tune of Rs 72 lakh were reflected in the GST returns”.

The action against the dealers has been started under Section 67 of the J&K State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) act, he added.

The spokesman said that the team also examined the Asian Roadways, a transport agency at Transport Nagar in the city and seized over 4000 kg of polythene.
