Petrol And Diesel Likely to be Under GST Soon: Maharashtra FM

On Tuesday, 10th October Sudhir Mungantiwar, Finance Minister of Maharashtra declared that all states have agreed to include petroleum and diesel products under the newly implemented indirect taxation system i.e. GST. Continuously increment in the prices of diesel and petroleum products across the nation, is creating a troublesome situation for the country. Public, transporters, and traders all are facing difficulties due to this.

While addressing an Interview, he said, “All the states have given the permission to bring petrol and diesel under GST. But we have to wait for the right time. All states have their own problems. During the time of GST implementation, all the rights were entrusted to the GST Council.”

Although, petrol pump owners, as well as petroleum retailers, will go on on strike for 24- hours. Petroleum Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, and petroleum owners are demanding to bring petroleum products under the ambit of Goods and Services Tax (GST). Nearly, 54,000 petrol pumps across India will go on strike for 24- hours, that will be starting at midnight from 13th October.

Maharashtra Association of Petrol Dealers President Uday Lodh previously said, “All the petroleum products must be brought under the GST regime so that our long-pending demand of ‘one nation, one rate’ can be fulfilled to benefit the consumers.”

Operators and truck owners are also facing difficulties due to the continuous rise in the diesel prices. They have gone for 36- hour nationwide strike starting from 9th October 8 a.m. protesting against the hike in diesel prices and ‘disruptive policies’ under GST. The operators are demanding to bring petroleum and diesel products under the newly implemented indirect taxation system.
