From June 3, GST E-way Bill Will Be Mandatory For Intra-State Movement

The intrastate e way bill is now re-scheduled to be implemented from 3rd June 2018 across the country from the earlier date of 1st June 2018 due to some reasons unspecified but the GST council with central government has notified that the said date i.e. 3rd June is the deadline for all the states to implement intrastate GST e way bill anyhow.

The government stated that all the states have to implement the national e-way bill system for the intra-state movement of all goods from June 3.

For inter-state movement of goods, if the group of ministers on information technology recommendation is approved by GST council on the meeting that is going to held on 10 March, then the system is expected to become compulsory from April 1.

Shukla also said that, under the GST regime system, all the states had joined the government centralized e-way bill system for the interstate transport of goods by road.

“Accordingly, the government, on the recommendations of the GST Council, appointed the 1st day of February as the date from which the provisions of the e-way bill rules shall come into force for inter-state movement of goods,” he said.

Although, it was decided by the GST council to extend the trial phase of generating the e-way bill of inter-state and intra-state movements of goods, as earlier many traders have faced the problems in generating the e-way bill, due to the technical glitch.

Whereas, in the meeting held on 24th February, a mandatory date for the implementation of the e-way bill system for the interstate movement of goods is recommended by the group of ministers led by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi. He also said that for the intra-state movement, it would be implemented in a phased manner, with only four or five states being allowed to come on board.

The recommendation given by the group of ministers would be considered by GST council during the meeting that is scheduled on March 10th.

Under the new tax regime, GST, an e-way bill is to be generated and carried by the transporters for the easy movement of all the goods with value more than 50 thousand.
