Under the surveillance of Chandigarh tax administration, a separate Intelligence Unit has been set up centric to issues like tax evasion, GST and revenue collection. The newly constituted intelligence department will work primarily towards curbing tax evasion from the grounds of Chandigarh. Collaborating with the Excise and Taxation Department, the Intelligence will investigate every aspect of tax evasion and GST revenues
The intelligence includes a total of six influentials who will come together every week to discuss and prepare a report on tax-related issues. Related to the registered firms, companies and dealers, the intelligence team will maintain the tax-related records which will be a prime resource in their investigation on tax evasion
The inclusion of the Intelligence Department in tax administration means that the Excise and Taxation Department will now be able to keep an eye on the firms, dealers and companies operating in Chandigarh and have a descriptive of their previous tax compliance. An add on to the services offered by this newly formed Intelligence unit, the team will extend complete information related to GST compliance to companies and individuals and also update them about the new policies issued by the Central Government from time to time. This will enlighten the taxpayers related to the policies of GST and in turn enhance GST revenue.
AETC RK Choudhary claimed that the intelligence department will contribute to finding out the unscrupulous taxpayers whose activities stimulate tax evasion in Chandigarh. The department will also verify the GST returns to be paid every month and to fulfill the purpose they have appointed two CAs in the team. If the department encounters any such case of tax evasion then the detailed reports will go directly to the administration who will further look upon the case and put charges as per GST Act Rules.
