CBEC Alerts to Clear All Pending Work Before GST Arrives

Central Board of Excise and Customs has given a clear indication to its working staff to shed off all the pending cases related to drawback payments and clearing pending refunds. The announcement has been made in order to make the way for GST and giving it a smooth hassle free structure to operate.

Chairperson of Central Board of Excise and Custom Najib Shah said that “preparations for introducing GST from the beginning of the next fiscal year are in full swing with the present focus on timely finalization of its legal and administrative framework.”

“At the same time, it is necessary to continue to focus on reducing the pendency of current items of work as this would have an important bearing on the successful implementation of GST.” he added

He also noted that “You would agree that too heavy a burden of legacy work regime would hamper us in giving our undivided attention to GUST. The solution, therefore, is to immediately chalk out an action plan to reduce the dependencies to the maximum possible extent in the balance months of the current financial year.”

The above decision has been held under the influence of the fast-paced meeting sessions of GST council which has been rolling out updated information and revised norms accordingly for the proper implementation of the GST.

The government has been planning to implement the Goods and Service tax regime on 1st April 2017 which has the motto to absorb all the indirect taxes currently prevailing in the country.
