Brick Manufacturers Request Govt to Back 1% GST Rate From 6%

The brick makers who are on strike for nearly 4 months have requested the government to reduce the GST rate on the bricks from 6 % to the former level of 1%.

The new GST rate would come into force from April 1, 2022, Omvir Singh Bhati, General Secretary of the All India Brick and Tile Manufacturers Federation (AIBTMF) informed PTI.

Before that, the charged GST was 1% imposed on the brick manufacturers beneath the composition scheme.

He stated that “We are facing a tough time. Our kilns all over the country are shut at the moment as we find it difficult to do business without demand and high input costs. We demand the government to reduce back the GST,”

Across the nation, the Kiln owners are there for the former 3 to 4 months he added quoting the cases for the shutting down of the units.

A 1% GST was there on the same business which has a turnover of Rs 1.5 cr. The majority of the AIBTMF members pose the turnover in this range.

But the government has surged the GST to 6% for the bricks industry merely and the same would be resisted to be identical to others.

The decision to surge the GST rate was opted for during the GST council meeting in the former year. Also, he made the statement that adding coal which would be one of the raw materials for the bricks shall indeed draw a 12% GST which is higher than the 5% levied in former times.

The business is labour-oriented and the government just needs to think again about its adopted decision to rise the Goods and Service Tax. In India, there are nearly 1.5 lakh brick kilns. Nearly 3 crore workers are not connected to work because of the shutdown.

AIBTMF Vice President Atul Kumar Singh stated “We have already given representations to ministries of Finance, Labour, Coal etc to analyse our concern and take a decision accordingly,” AIBTMF Vice President Atul Kumar Singh said.
