West Bengal FM Urges Not to Implement GST on Scheduled Date

It seems that there are no end to the disputes related to the ambitious goods and services tax, the Bengal finance minister has came up with the statement that there can not be implementation of goods and services tax from the July 1st and it will be under scanner as it contains various factors which prove fatal for the lower economy of the nation. The finance minister Amit Mitra cleared that the GST should not be implemented in July as the tax structure is not yet readily available for the proper operational usage.

The chairman of GST related matter Amit Mitra clearly mentioned that the framework is not absolutely ready and the scheme should not be implemented at any cost on the July 1st, pre-scheduled date. He gave reasons that the GST is still under construction and even its rules and guidelines are not fully developed.

He doubted that the small and medium enterprises are not fully ready towards the obligations of GST and has demanded that West Bengal wants some rate cutting in various products under the GST. He added that until unless everyone agrees to the provisions of GST along with clearance of all the issues related to the tax scheme, the bill could not pass in the West Bengal assembly.

He mentioned that the issues regarding 12 percent on the cashew nuts still prevails in the assembly along with issues regarding the 12 percent implication of GST on the shoes and footwear. He suggested that the 12 percent tax rate on footwear is not suitable for poor people and footwears below 500 rupees should be exempted.
