State Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha ratified the 122 Amendment Bill 2014 of the Constitution and passed a resolution without any discontentment or opposition. While the President Pranab Mukherjee gave a consent over the constitution Amendment Bill on GST on September 8 which was passed in both the house of parliament and has been ratified by the required number of state assemblies as of now.
The GST Act has been proposed for implementation by April 2017. The GST is seen as a significant indirect tax reform in the country that will subsume most of the state and central taxes such as excise duty, service tax, central sales tax, additional custom duty and value added tax.
