Taxpayers to File GST Annual Returns

In a hurry to file the GST returns, the taxpayers have now started to line up at the tax offices, GST commissionerate helplines, and at various tax professionals including chartered accountants.

And to help the taxpayers with their tax returns, the GST commissionerate is also organizing various Seva Kendra. As per the GST commissioner, around 20 percent of taxpayers have filed annual returns of GST up till now.

Also, there are around 65000 taxpayers pending to file GST returns in the region of Nilgiris and Tirupur. As per the statement, “We have deployed our team of officials including retired officers, to enable them to complete the process on time,”.

There has been widening of tax base from 28,000 to 65,000 till now but he said that “The base has widened, but it is not commensurate with the revenue.”

While the commissioner also asked about the Sabka Vishwas (Legacy Dispute Resolution) Scheme 2019 to the taxpayers to have some benefits from such a scheme.

He said, “This scheme has been introduced for resolution and settlement of legacy cases of Service Tax and Central Excise. It would cover past dispute of taxes, which got subsumed in GST, and all persons are eligible to avail the scheme.”

Recently the government has introduced the GST amnesty scheme to get the taxpayers done with their pending as well as newer taxes filing on time. Also, the CAIT asked the finance ministry to extended the GST annual return due dates due to some technical glitches encountered on GST portal.
