GST E-way Bill which is implemented starting 1 April for interstate and 15 April for intrastate transportation of Goods will see some relief as the apex authority can simplify the verification process. The E-way bill is a document issued in order to make a movement of goods costing more than Rs 50,000, from one state to another state or within the state under GST regime. In the process of goods movement, it faces many bill verification checks at the time of transit and it creates a further delay in goods transportation.
Concerning the problem, there is a good news for the transport industry as it is suggested to ease the Electronic-way (E-way) bill operations.

Sachin Menon, National Head of Indirect Tax at KPMG had mentioned that if there can be an operation checking the transit only once, it would be better. Further, he mentioned that it is also necessary to introduce grievance system in the process if the verification takes more than 30 minutes. Next, he says, “There are queries on if it is verified once, will it be verified again in the voyage again. Also, is it just document verification or is there a need for physical verification,”
He described that stopping a truck for verification up to 30 minutes is right but if it takes longer time, then the issue needs to be reported under the GST grievance redressal portal.
On May 4, the upcoming 27th GST Council meeting will discuss how to simplify the process further and consider the mentioned solutions as well.
Menon also favoured E-way bill in increasing GST collection and said, “We have seen about Rs 96,000 crore as of the end of March 2018. This increase could be partly due to the input credit carry forward, close of the financial year and also due to the anticipation of the e-way bill coming in.”
