The largest LNG supplier Qatar recently demanded that the natural gas must be included in the goods and services tax ambit for a neutral and share increasing point for the country welfare.

Qatar Gas CEO Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani at Petrotech conference stated that India is one of the important market for Qatar adding that, “If there is a change in demand worldwide we will see it in India especially in fossil fuel.”

As per the data, Qatar brings 8.5 million tonnes a year of liquefied natural gas towards India being the largest source of imported gas. He also added that “LNG should be considered to get full benefits of GST, We would be working closely with the government.”

In the recent past when Rosneft and its partners made a deal for the acquisition of Essar, there were some issues and the company could not claim the input tax credit even after paying the dividend and corporate tax.

As per the increasing demand of LNG, the advisors and the company head have intended to bring the natural gas as well as other fuels in the GST ambit as soon as possible for better handling the tax scheme.
