New CBEC Chief Alerts Department Officials Ahead of GST

CBEC newly appointed chief Vanaja Sarna has been doing all round of activities to create an active movement within the department and has poked the field officers to be ready for the upcoming taxation regime with all the potential and responsibility. This also includes campaigning and creating awareness among the trading community and the industries as well. This awareness will be garnered by the short window which will be available before the July 1 rollout.

The chief-in-charge mentioned in a statement that, “We need to align our thinking with the changes that GST shall bring forth and see ourselves as a national tax administration that has the expertise in work, acumen in enforcement, accountability in function and most of all integrity in our ethos, As the impact of the GST law becomes more defined in the days to follow, it will become evident that when we reorient ourselves as a federal tax administration, there will be a definite positive outcome.”

She has been very positive regarding the new reform, as added by her, “Time of historic transition for indirect tax administration” and the change is “significant, challenging and arduous”. The chief has also gone through the demands and inner speak of the officials who were not happy with the powers being transferred to the state officials in a higher proportion and said that, “I want to reassure each one of you that we have a collective higher support and understanding which is firmly in place for our service.”

“We have always adapted to change with alacrity and demonstrated our ability to overcome the acute challenges. There is a need for a similar attitude today.” chief Vanaja Sarna added. The chief was assured of the IT system available with CBEC department and has asked officials to work focused in order to create a well-defined administration.

At last, she mentioned in the letter that, “The duly approved re-organisation proposal has ensured there is no negative fallout on the organisational structure of the department.”
