Naidu Raised Concerns Over Print Media

The goods and service tax will be giving away some of the hardships to sectors and industries which are already having some struggles with the endurance. In this consideration, the union minister Venkaiah Naidu has raised his voice for the newspaper media sector.

The minister has shared his concerns with the Information and Broadcasting secretary Ajay Mittal to have a look at the newspaper industry and the print media sector which are already having some stiff environment in their growth.

The statement from the IB department mentioned that the union minister has taken the name of two authoritative figures namely, wage board and GST council which seeks a higher taxation implication over the print media sector. This has also given a reason to the sector to give a notification to the concerned minister, and same has been conveyed by the union minister.

An overall known fact from the industry is that the print media sector has already been going through harsh conditions for maintenance and has to sustain through every situation and taking the employees along with. The new provisions announced by the department and coming demonetization move has already given a fearful thought for the sector and would definitely seek justification.

The information and broadcasting department will take a brief meeting with various other ministries for this issue, and will also represent a discussion in the apex bodies of concern and sectoral representatives. The statement from the union minister has said that, “has taken note of the concerns expressed by the newspaper industry which has been reported in (the) media” and “has asked Secretary, I&B, to look into the issues in the wake of implementation of latest Wage Board Recommendations and the proposed GST regime.”
