India’s Net Direct Tax Collections Grow 8.82% Through Mid-January

India Sees 8.82% Growth in Net Direct Tax Collections

The income tax department’s data mentioned that the direct tax collections of the central government after refunds stood at Rs 18.37 lakh crore between April 1 and January 11 of FY26.

The net direct tax collections compared to the same period of the last financial year increased by 8.8%. The same growth is lower compared to the forecast made in the budget.

The Union Budget for FY26 has projected net direct tax collections to increase by 16.1% year-on-year.

From the data of IT, till January 11, the net corporate tax collections stood at Rs 8.63 lakh crore, up 12.41% on year. The net non-corporate tax collections (including personal income tax and securities transaction tax) stood at Rs 9.29 lakh crore, which is 6.39% higher on year.

The Budget had projected net corporate tax mop-up to surge 9.7 % year-on-year in FY26, and net non-corporate tax to surge by 21.6%.

Between April 1 and January 11, the refunds stood at Rs 3.11 lakh crore. This is lower by 16.91% as compared to the same period of the last fiscal. Refunds stood at Rs 3.75 lakh crore between April-January 11 FY25.

Rs 21.49 lakh crore is the gross direct tax, which was 4.14% up on the year.
