Income Tax Dept Prefers Direct Actions Over Raids

The Income Tax Department has made several major changes in the measures to catch the tax evaders and in the actions against them in the last few days. Now instead of raids in the country, the Income Tax Department will take direct action by setting the target.

According to the senior officials of the IT department, transaction-related information is present with the Income Tax Department. Under the new system, the investigation is done using data analytics. The new system instantly alerts the authorities ASAP it encounters any alterations in the information given by the people and the information present in the system.

Smart Methods are Superseding the Conventional One

The government is switching on to smart methods of investigation because most of the time conventional methods go in vain and leave IT officials empty-handed after the raid as the information found on the basis of an informant is not accurate always. This is the reason why the government is preparing to transform its officers and department into utterly smart by knocking off the traditional methods.

Evidence and Arrest

Now the evidence will be collected with the use of technology and the department will move ahead to arrest tax evaders directly. The government wants minimal personal intervention to curb black money and for this Income tax and GST, the network has been integrated. Hawkeye will be kept on people’s expenses and bank transactions through data analytics.

Income Tax Department has complete details of tax evaders

An IT official said that the system has all the information that can be used as evidence of the person’s forgery. The department will set targets on the basis of this information and will directly take actions. In the conventional methods, the investigation was done on the basis of information followed by recovery of documents through the raid. Most of the GST Intelligence Wing officers use the new system.

Reliance on data analytics

After the demonetisation and beginning of the GST regime, the government feels that the raiding is not the ultimate and successful option to catch tax evaders so some changes have been made in the methodology. After the changes, the officials of the Income Tax and GST Department are relying more on data analytics and intelligence.
