Gujarat Traders Making Officials Realise The Pain of GST Filing

To fight against the difficulties being faced by traders in GST return filing, a forward step has been taken by the Gujarat traders. In Surat (Gujarat), the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), power loom weavers, and Gujarat Commercial Tax Bar Association (SGCTBA) are approaching to Goods and Services Suvidha Kendra (GSTSK) and asking the officials at the Kendra to furnish the GST returns.

Due to technical glitches in filing the GST returns on a common portal and complicated procedure demanding each and every detail about the supplied Goods and services, the hundred of Tax consultants from south Gujarat are forced to take the GSTR-2 filing away.

As a consequence, on Friday, Tax Consultants and traders have planned to meet at GSK along with the information of all transactions in a USB drive. They will give this details to available officials at GSK and request them to file the return in front of them. This decision is taken to make officials at GSK to feel the pain of traders while filing GST returns.

Prashant Shah, President at SGCTBA said, “During his last visit to the Diamond City, revenue secretary Hasmukh Adhia had stated at a public event that tax consultants and traders would have to press just one key and their returns will be uploaded and filed on the GST portal.”

He further said, “Ironically, we have been pressing the keys for 10 to 15 times, yet not able to file the returns. Thus, we have boycotted the filing of GSTR-2 returns. We will visit the GSK and ask the officials there to file the returns for us on the portal.”

Pramod Bhagat, President at Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has favoured the move by traders and said that traders are frustrated with the inconvenience in return filing for the August and September month due to the portal slow down and inoperability of the system. He further asserted that officials will be able to file GST return only if the portal works flawlessly at GSK.

  • The government must penalise the GST portal server company with a penalty of Rs 1 crore every day till these problems are solved. Maybe, then they will do something instead of threatening assesses with a daily penalty for late filing. This was anticipated before GST was brought in but assesses were promised faultless service.
